Carpet Pad Acts Like a Sponge
Subfloor is Really Wet After Pipe Burst
SERVPRO of Central Schaumburg / West Bloomingdale had to remove the carpet pad on this commercial water damage because the subfloor would not dry otherwise. Not removing the pad would have caused the subfloor to start to swell causing lumps.
Another issue would be the mold that would grow because wood is an organic material. Mold grows within 24 hours in some cases and it can be avoided if the water is dried really quickly.
With the pad removed we could add a dehumidifier and air movers to the hall to dry out the flooring quickly and more efficiently.
